God's Promises

Are all the thoughts in your head yours? This seems like a silly question. Surely, if it is in my head, then it must be mine.
However, I don’t think it is quite that simple. I think a lot of times the thoughts in our head aren’t ours, in fact, they are opposite to who we are in Christ.
Is the thought you find yourself wrestling with causing you to feel defeated? Is it bringing about many different scenarios that make you feel worried, stressed and afraid? Are you struggling to feel at peace or joy?
These are all thoughts contrary to the promises of Jesus.
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27, CEB)
So what are we going to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? (Romans 8:31, CEB)
I have said these things to you so that my joy will be in you and your joy will be complete. (John 15:11, CEB)
Remember, the world is trying to pull us away from God. The devil actively engages our lives, causing us to remember and think in ways that are not helpful at all. This isn’t a condemnation, but a reminder we are in a battle.
Listen to the Apostle Paul.
I, Paul, make a personal request to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ. I’m shy when I’m with you, but I’m bossy when I’m away from you! 2 I beg you that when I’m with you in person, I won’t have to boss you around. I’m afraid that I may have to use that kind of behavior with those people who think we live by human standards. 3 Although we live in the world, we don’t fight our battles with human methods. 4 Our weapons that we fight with aren’t human, but instead they are powered by God for the destruction of fortresses. They destroy arguments, 5 and every defense that is raised up to oppose the knowledge of God. They capture every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10, CEB)
Capture every thought!
When a thought doesn’t bring about the hope and peace found in God’s promises, turn the thought around.
Instead of thinking, “God I just don’t know how I am going to make it one more day.” Turn it around, “Thank You, God, that I have another day. You have given me life, a life with You. I am not alone. You are with me. You revealed Your love for me on the cross. I am Yours and together we can shine Your light!”
Or, “God I don’t know what tomorrow says. I remember Your promises of providing and telling me not to worry. I am thankful for Your faithfulness and grace. I may not know how this turns out, but I know who You are!”
Capture your thoughts, turn them around and fill your mind with the promises of God.
Blessings,
Pastor Matt
